Woman Takes Her Beagle To The Rescue Center To Be Euthanized Because She Is Overweight!

To look after a doggie is a real responsibility because some dogs need more looking after than others, like Honey the Beagle, she was surrendered to the SPCA of Niagara County in New York, to be euthanized because she was so overweight…

The poor dog had been sat in her own urine and feces at home, but the story doesn’t end there! This story has much more to it than you would imagine…

Her owner has dementia, sadly she would forget that she had already fed Honey, and keep feeding her again! Honey had no real exercise and with so much food swelled to 68 pounds.

The woman, who was getting on in her years, was completely convinced that the dog’s quality of life so so awful that the only option left to her was euthanasia, how incredibly said…

Thankfully the owners of the shelter didn’t concur with her, suffice to say that they couldn’t disagree more, they had a plan to get things sorted out!

Honey was straight away cleaned up and had a lovely bath, she was placed on a super strict diet immediately and after a medical assessment they put her on some medication for hypothyroidism, she even lost five pounds in the first week!

Honey found it so incredibly hard to move around, just due to how heavy she was, but the volunteers and staff at the rescue center gave her plenty of great opportunities to exercise using the magic of water therapy and then the treadmill with a support to help her to walk!

Since then the weight has been flying off her so fast, well done Honey, looks like she is well on her way to recovery and has a second chance at life!

SPCA volunteer, Sue Cable, said:

“I was amazed at how fast it happened …Once she was in a home and able to move around in that, she just went.”

Over about a period of six months, Honey had lost around 40 pounds, how awesome!

This lovely Beagle is now ready to find her forever home, the staff at the rescue center want her to lose about 5 more pounds then she will be allowed to go to a forever home!

Thanks to all the staff and volunteers at the rescue center who were not only there for in her weight loss journey, but too, they also saved her from the worst fate ever, to be euthanized.
