To all dog owners and lovers, it’s well known that puppies are eager and excited to investigate and play, they are energetic and can’t pass one hour with doing something to amuse themselves. And the pup in today’s story is one of those puppies.
One little dog from Chengdu, China, did just that when he mistook his former owner’s phone for a fun chew toy.
Instead of understanding the puppy’s ignorance, the dog’s owner responded in rage, tossing boiling water on the animal and then throwing it from a four-story balcony as punishment for the minor accident.
According to The Dodo, the unlucky puppy, now named Tuffy, was fortunate enough to find a Good Samaritan after being abandoned.
Yan Yingying happened to pass by the suffering dog, twisting and whimpering on the sidewalk, and immediately took the six-week-old animal to a veterinary office.
“The sight must have been horrific, and I’m sure many people would have walked past and pretended not to see,” Emily Drayton, a vet with the animal welfare group Animals Asia, said in a statement.
“But she didn’t. She took Tuffy to a local vet in Chengdu and paid for all his veterinary care. That saved his life.”
Tuffy arrived at the vet scalded, scaredh, covered in blisters and barely able to function.
The local vet knew he needed more care than they could provide, so they sent the dog to Animals Asia, an animal welfare group known for rescuing bears from the bile farming industry.
Under Animals Asia’s care, Tuffy received round-the-clock treatment for his extensive wounds. His eyelids burned away, the pup had to learn to sleep with his eyes open.
After hearing Tuffy’s story, compassionate animal lovers rushed to donate funds and services to help the dog. A surgeon from Hong Kong flew out to give the furry patient skin grafts while large donations from strangers poured in.
Individuals like this ended up forming Team Tuffy, an optimistic group that worked at nursing both Tuffy’s body and spirit back to health.
With all this support, Tuffy was able to bounce back and grow into a sweet, fun-loving dog that is a far cry from the shivering and devastated pup first brought to Animals Asia.
While many contributed to his recovery, it was Tuffy’s first guardian angel who gave him a forever home.
Now that he is back in good health, Tuffy is living out a love-filled existence in the home of his rescuer Yingying.
