Train travel is a wonderful thing, but to be honest, I prefer to take my car because my lovely dog can come with me wherever I go, on that note Jared Twedell was driving to the recycling center, he saw something quite unexpected…
It was early on a Sunday Morning in Oregon and Jared, as you can tell by his destination, is a sensible and caring guy, especially after you know what he did!
Jared said: – “There are railroad tracks near the gate, and out of the corner of my eye, I caught this flicker of movement …I thought it was a deer lying on the tracks.”
Jared rolled his window down in the vehicle and whisted to try to get the animal to leave the tracks, but as he saw the animal’s ears stand to attention, he realized it was a dog on the lines!
The dog was trapped there in some way, on the train lines, but how could he be there, and how did he get there?
He soon realized that the dog was in fact tied to the train lines and it changed things considerably, he felt the sense of urgency roll over him.
“I went into panic mode …He tried to walk toward the car and the rope pulled him back.”
In that are he had an idea that the train rolls through at least three times a day and he had no clue how much time there was before one of those trains rolled in…
He rushed and parked on the side and sprang out of his car, he knew had had to act fast!
Jared went on to say:
“He was obviously scared …I was worried about whether or not he would let me get close to him. I patted my leg and said, ‘Hey little buddy!’ His tail just started wagging. That’s when I knew he would be OK with me approaching him.”
Jared was very concerned that at any moment a train could come and until the dog was untied and brought to safety there were real dangers to both of them, but definitely to the dog!
He got the dog untied and took him to the car, the poor dog was exhausted, left in the heat and with no water, it really took its toll.
“The rope was tied in a figure-eight, like you would use to tie a boat to a dock …Someone did this 100 percent on purpose. It just made me sick.”
Jared knew that he would take the dog home and put him into his car, at first he thought he would call him Train, but then decided to give him a real name, Samson! What an amazing name!!
They arrived at Jared’s house and he gave the dog a bath, he just had a little cut on his neck but seemed to be quite well apart from that, his nails were not overgrown and he looked like a healthy weight too…
Samson really was a great dog, he instantaneously took a liking to Jared and his family, as well as his two other rescue dogs, cats and a giant rabbit called Flemish, how amazing is this guy!
Jared then said:
“The dogs have all been getting along great …All they’ve been doing since I brought Samson home is play.”
Despite his huge size, Samson is approximately about 6 months old, on top of that he is expected to grow even bigger still.
“He’s definitely rambunctious and really big …I’m sure someone got him thinking they’ll end up with a tiny puppy, not expecting him to already be 60 pounds at 6 months old.”
“He’s still so young, and it was over 100 degrees with no shade out there. I don’t think he would have made it out there, even if a train didn’t come through.”
So Jared is fostering him, but it looks pretty likely to us that he will be a permanent member of the family!
Jared said finally:
“He’s a really great dog …This little guy had someone watching over him.”
We are so ashamed that another human being did this to him, we only hope that there was a security camera that caught the culprit and action is taken to the fullest extent of the law, don’t you agree?
