The animal was taken to the vets and made a full recovery, thanks to the motorists, after being left “spinning around in the middle of the motorway”.
This video shows the heroic motorists who went to the rescue of a dog which ran out onto a busy stretch of the M3 and was hit by a car.
Elliott Killingbeck captured the dramatic incident on two dash-cams as the dog was left terrified on the southbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4, just past Lightwater.
The 22-year-old stepped into action after a lorry had swerved out towards the middle lane when the dog was struck by a car in front.
“I saw the dog spinning around in the middle of the motorway, I stopped and pulled up in front of the lorry,” he said.
“I comforted the dog for about 10 to 15 minutes while waiting for the police to arrive.”
A police motorcyclist attended the incident but had nowhere to put the dog on his bike to take him to the vets, so Mr Killingbeck said he agreed to transport the animal instead.
Thankfully, the story ends happily as he left his details at the vets and was contacted by the owner to be told the dog had made a full recovery.
