It is wonderful to finally see some justice given in a way that not only draws attention to the cause of deterring all animal abusers, but too is designed to leave a lasting impression with the offender!
This animal loving Judge really is giving out the strangest sentences to these repeat animal abusers in Ohio.
Judge Michael Cicconetti ,who presides over all sorts of cases in his hometown, Painesville, OH, is known for his quite frankly, blunt and creative judgment calls!
One sort of criminal activity that really gets him hot under the collar, more so than any other is that of animal abuse, we quite frankly agree!
This Judge really has got a lot of compassion for animals, and it most definitely shows in his courtroom, he is gathering momentum and using the situation to draw even more awareness in his city about such abusers.
The Judge began to take a really unusual approach to giving out sentences after he noticed a string of repeat criminal offenders coming into his courtroom.
He really did get so sick of it, so he decided that enough was enough, no more playing nice!
The standard approach of ‘fine them and jail them really was not working, to nothing was changing , so the the Judge dialed-up the sentences with a real creative approach how he sentences people.
For instance, in this one particular case, a woman was faced the formidable Judge after she had been charged with animal neglect. Her dog, Moose, was found living in absolute filth and squalor, poor dog.
The Jude decided that a night in jail wasn’t nearly enough of a sentence to fit the crime, so he offered her one of his special sentences, he called them “creative sentences”.
At first it may have seemed an easier sentence, or an easy way out, but the woman soon found out that it really was not either of those things.
“I want you to go down to the county dump, to the landfill, and I want them to find the stinkiest, smelliest, God-awful odor place they can find in that dump and I want you to sit there for eight hours tomorrow, to think about what you did to that dog while you smell the odor. If you puke, you puke.”
The very much pet friendly and caring Judge is not giving out ill thought out sentences, neither are they sentences simply for publicity either, though some have accused him of exactly that.
This Judge has better and bigger ideas, a real ambition to raise awareness on animal abuse and he is using his great position in society to further a truly worthy cause, hopefully to one day bring better legislation and have the problems addressed more severely.
The Judges love of animals stems from his childhood, where as a boy his family got their first dog, called Herman.
This dog, a mixed breed of Dachshund was his best friend that he could of ever wished for!
Herman has of course passed some years ago, but this love still lives on in his owner, now a Judge, and he now owns another dog, called Kasey, a Bernese Mountain dog given to him from a dying friend.
The Judge also encountered another case, involving a woman that abandoned nearly 40 kittens to the lurking dangers of the woods, he was inspired to deliver her an epic sentence too, showing his love for more than just dogs, all animals alike!
He finally decided to not just punish her with time spent in jail, but also teach her a lesson too, she would be in the same shoes as her victims so to speak…
He ordered her to spend a long, freezing and wintry night in the woods, all by herself, so she could think about what she did, but not before he grilled her regarding her complete lack of compassion.
“How would you like to be dumped off at a metro park late at night, spend the night listening to the coyotes … listening to the raccoons around you in the dark night, and sit out there in the cold not knowing where you’re going to get your next meal, not knowing when you are going to be rescued?”
The judge hopes that the publicity he gets for handing out these sentences will educate people and make them aware of the criminality and goings on of these offenders and what they do to innocent animals.
He would love to see harsher sentencing for these convicted animal abusers, as well as compulsory education programs like seen in cases of child neglect or domestic violence.
