Government is a bit like an animal in a way, but not a dog, as it’s really not loving enough for that, but the Government is making moves to help our beloved dogs, and cats too…
In their efforts, they are trying to stop people from eating pets, and this is where we thin.., really? Some people actually eat pets?? Ewww!
The House nevertheless passed a bill on Wednesday, by voice vote, to ban the slaughter and transportation, sale and possession of dogs and cats, for the purpose of food…
The “Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act of 2018” was sponsored by Republican Rep. Vern Buchanan with a Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings, both of Florida, and really it is a great thing!!
Buchanan said in a statement that, about the bill, 44 states do not actually have any laws outlawing the consumption of cats and dogs.
He says, that:
“It should be outlawed completely given how beloved these animals are for most Americans.”
California, Georgia, Hawaii, Michigan, New York, and Virginia are of course the six states that explicitly ban cat and dog for use as food.
“Dogs and cats provide love and companionship to millions of people and should not be slaughtered and sold as food”
Hastings released a statement:
“The House of Representatives has voted to unify animal cruelty laws across the country, which would prohibit the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption”
“I am proud to have championed this effort in Congress to explicitly ban the killing and consumption dogs and cats across the United States, and am greatly appreciative of my friend and colleague Congressman Buchanan for taking the ‘Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act’ across the finish line today.”
Also, another great thing is that the bill stops the foreign and interstate trade of cats and dogs for food too…
However, there is one exception to this rule and it is for Indian tribes, the bill does declare that Indian tribes can engage in these acts “for the purpose of a religious ceremony.”
The maximum penalty for eating cats and dogs is $5,000, wow, some progress? What do think about it?
