An upset and understandably distraught dog owner has finally been reunited with her loved doggie after he was dug up, alive after vanishing five days previously…
Sara Mclellan, 33-years-old, was completely destroyed after her sweet little doggie called Ralph vanished whilst he was on a walk with her near their English hole in Haworth, West Yorkshire.
Sara with her hubby were spending the weekend looking for their adorable pooch, who happened to be a Dachshund, wire-hair and all!
Volunteers were recruited to help as they posted to Facebook about a “Lost Dog”, there was even a woman created a website for Ralph, but he just could not be found.
“On Friday it was horrendous weather, it was freezing and we just couldn’t find him anywhere …As you can imagine at this point your mind goes wild thinking, ‘what’s happened? Has he drowned? Has something bad happened?”
“My son had asking us where Ralphy was. He was opening the front door and shouting for him, it was heartbreaking …We just had to tell him that Daddy was looking for him.”
Quite spectacularly the scared out of his wits doggie was at last found in a place that was only found by his sister, Edie, also while out on a walk with Sara’s hubby.
This pooch was in a pretty unlikely place, five feet underground, in a maze of rabbit runs, a mere half a mile from his house and home.
After a couple of hours of careful digging they covered him, a little worse for the wear, but alive and well, a good bath, food and water is what he needs now!
“The rabbit holes are like mazes and he must have gone through one hole and got stuck – he had made himself a hole in the middle but he couldn’t get out again …When he got out the hole he went for a wee – and then carried on as if nothing had happened!”
“When I got back home I opened the door and there he was in the kitchen …I couldn’t believe it.”
Even though he lost quite a bit of weight while he was stuck in the hole, Ralph was not too much wore off, no serious injuries, and he seemed pretty happy too.
“Ralph is completely knackered and he has worn down his nails from where he was trying to dig himself out, but he is otherwise fine ..He’s lost weight and he’s so tired – he just needs time to build himself back up again.”
His owners were super relieved to have this little doggie back home and safe with them, it give us all hope to find lost pets!
“It was such a drama and I was still in shock when I saw him – I was up till 1am last night just cuddling him.”
“He does like chasing rabbits and he does that a lot but he just took it too far this time. Hopefully he has learnt his lesson this time.”
Well done Ralph, we hope you have many more happy years ahead of you, and that you don’t go chasing any more rabbits!
