Thousands took to social media this week to share the hashtag #JeSuisChien (“I am dog”) and #NotAllHeroesAreHuman in honor of a police dog killed in Paris during raids following the terrorist attacks on Friday, Nov. 13.
French police tweeted a photo of the 7-year-old police dog Belgian Malinois, on Wednesday, Nov. 18, reporting that he was killed by terrorists during the raid in the northern Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, where two terrorism suspects died and seven were captured.
Sources say the police dog was killed when a woman detonated a suicide belt after shooting at police. Diesel had been sent into the apartment building before police to assess the situation.
Police noted that these dogs are “indispensible” in their missions.
