People like to think that the pets they own are loyal to them, but, many species don’t actually have the capacity to act faithful during a time of need. It’s not their fault–they’re animals, after all!
Dogs are, however, incredibly loyal dog, but few of us ever see their loyalty put to the test in actual life or death situations. However, one family witnessed this devotion in an incredible way when a fire broke out at their Baltimore home.
Erika Poremski had stepped out of her Baltimore home for just a moment when a fire suddenly broke out. She rushed inside to get to her 8-month-old daughter Viviana, but she couldn’t get past the flames.
Neighbors also tried unsuccessfully to reach the child.
Luckily, the family dog Polo knew something was wrong, and he stayed with Viviana the entire time.
When the Baltimore City Fire Department arrived at the scene; they rushed in to get Viviana and found Polo on top of her, shielding her from the surrounding flames.
Viviana suffered burns on 19% of her body, but she was spared more serious harm because of Polo’s protection.
Polo, however, was very badly injured and died soon after the fire department rescued the two of them from the burning house.
Polo died a hero, giving his life to save the most vulnerable member of the family.
Viviana is still in the hospital being treated for her injuries and is expected to recover.
Loyal dog Polo is truly a hero giving his life to save baby Viviana.
