Ugliest Dogs Story” You have heard it before: “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover”. It may sound chiché or even a little corny, but if you have ever made a judgement based on looks alone and found out you were wrong, you know that it is more than true.
Outside appearances might be able to tell you a little, but what’s on the inside is much more important when it comes to people and even animals.
It might seem a little harsh, then, that for the past 27 years in a row, a “World’s Ugliest Dog” competition is held at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, CA. But although the dogs are being judged on their “natural ugliness,” they are also scored on personality and special attributes, which puts a positive spin on qualities and characteristics that would normally be considered negative in the beauty pageant and dog show world.
Taking the crown this year is “half dog” named Quasi Modo, an “Ugliest Dogs” dog who just barely missed the top spot last year. And the competition this year was just as rough. Going up against dogs with physical deformities, bald spots, and some pretty funny-looking, toothy smiles, Quasi had her work laid out for her.
But while Quasi and her competitors are the types of dogs most people would pass by at the animal shelter, it is hard to see them as anything but adorable and lovable once you see their big personalities on stage. Their sunny dispositions are especially charming, considering all the adversity they have faced due to their looks.
The behind-the-scenes footage of this year’s contest shows you just how precious and loving each one of these special dogs are and it might even sway you to adopt the next champion!
