A Chihuahua puppy is abandoned at airport with heartbreaking note from owner!

A Chihuahua named “Chewy” was found alone in an airport restroom in Las Vegas with a note from his owner explaining why she had to leave the puppy.

Apparently, the two left together to save themselves from mistreatment. But the owner had no choice but leave the puppy Chewy behind.

According to the note, Chewy’s owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford to get her little one with her on the flight. “She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart but she has NO other option.”

Found along with Chewy was a handwritten note from his owner describing how they had fled mistreatment together — a desperate escape which, heartbreakingly, ended up forcing them apart:

“Hi! I’m Chewy! My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford me to get on the flight. She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart but she has NO other option. My ex-boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting and he has a big knot on his head. He probably needs a vet. I love Chewy sooo much — please love and take care of him.”

Fortunately, Chewy wasn’t alone for long. A Good Samaritan brought him to Connor and Millie’s Dog Rescue. There president and founder Linda Gilliam first learned his backstory.

“My heart dropped to my knees,” Gilliam told The Dodo. “I didn’t hesitate to accept him and instructed my foster to immediately get him to an ER.”

And with that, Chewy was on the road to recovery — and a better life.

Chewy was taken to Connor and Millie’s Dog Rescue (CMDR) where he was evaluated and later put up for adoption.

The adorable puppy was found to be in good shape, and quickly won hearts everywhere.

The whereabouts of the woman who had been forced to leave Chewy behind aren’t known, but Gilliam hopes that by sharing their story, it will help other people with pets in abusive situations.

If escaping with a pet isn’t possible, local animal rescue groups can provide care for them in the meantime. So both can make it through. Shelters will often assist in finding a way to keep pets and their owners together in these cases, too.

“This is a very overlooked issue as a whole,” Gilliam said. “We also wanted to try and get the message to Chewy’s mom that she did a brave thing and that he is safe and will have a great life.”

While some are offering Chewy a loving new home, others are saying that he should be reunited with his owner.

Our hearts ache for Chewy and his human. And we too, hope that they will meet again and be able to live a happy life together.
